# When a piece is Unavailable

Catalog products come from real retailers. When a piece isn't shoppable anymore, we mark it Unavailable so you can swap before the family hits a dead link.

## In the editor

Selected-item thumbnails — the row of picks at the top — show an X when that Catalog product is Unavailable. The X is the mark; there's no separate badge on those tiny thumbs.

*Your picks sit in a row at the top of the editor. An X on a thumbnail means that Catalog piece is Unavailable.*

Swap it for something else, or leave it and tell the family to skip that piece. The rest of the guide is unchanged.

## What your client sees

On the published page the piece still renders, with an Unavailable badge. It isn't hidden. If you'd rather they not tap a dead shop link, swap it before they shop.

*Same fact, two marks: an X on the editor thumbnail, and an Unavailable badge on the page your client sees.*

## The email

When a Catalog product on one of your in-scope style guides is Unavailable, we email you a list so you can swap before the session. One email covers every in-scope guide.

A guide is in-scope when:

- the session date is today or later, or
- it's published with no session date.

Published guides whose session date has passed are out. Drafts with no date and no public link are out.

Closet pieces never show up in this email. Those are yours — they aren't shoppable Catalog products, so they can't go Unavailable.

If you [Copy an Inspiration](/help/copy-an-inspiration) that uses a Catalog piece we've already emailed you about, we won't send that email again. We remember what we've told you.

If a piece comes back and then dies again, we'll email you again. We only nag once per dying streak.

## Turning it off

Turn the email off in Settings under Unavailable items. It's on by default, on every plan. The X in the editor and the badge on the client page stay — those aren't the email, they're the mark on the piece.
